“Teenage tricks” of Georgian President

2009-07-22 23:05

3441.jpegPresident's appearance in parliament for the debates has been a real success. Western diplomats and tame opposition enjoyed it. But implacable opponents didn't believe him and were not inspired by Manilov-style dreams. Most probably they just saw that the diagnosis Nino Burdzhanadze made for Saakashvili was right. In the meantime the scandal with the article in The Wall Street Journal that as it turned out offered no apologies to the president, confirms the idea of the Georgian leader's inadequacy.

There was no "sorry" to the Georgian president from the Wall Street Journal (USA) as Kate Dobbin, the newspaper owning Dow Jones company spokesman told RIA Novosti. Yesterday however Mikheil Saakashvili said he had been offered apologies. Another illusion, right? In his interview with the newspaper there was a glimpse of common sense. He said the hope of Georgia joining NATO was "almost dead" and that Russia "fought for the right reasons". And then he contradicted himself.

Should the president's speech in parliament be considered sound or will he renounce it as a vision? Anyway it was well received by part of the audience. "It was a very interesting speech", - US Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Georgia John Tefft repeatedly told journalists after the debates. "Construction of democracy in Georgia is a choice of Georgian people. We share this choice as we are friends of Georgia", - he noted happy about the success of the follower of American demagogues that bring freedom to the nations of the world on bayonets of mercenaries.

German Ambassador to Georgia Patricia Flor couldn't refrain from praise. "Such meetings are extremely meaningful for the democratic process developing in the country", - she said surprised at the fact that Saakashvili had dared to stand in front of parliament discussing "such important issues as law, human rights and economy".

If only the American gentleman and the frau had known the ending of the show debates Mikheil Saakashvili had had in store, they would have thought he was a drama genius. The climax was the Georgian President's confession that he preserved his seat with his (sorry) "balls" safe and sound. As French media reported in a private telephone call with Nicolas Sarkozy Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin promised to hang Saakashvili by his testicles. "I'd like to remind Putin's promise to perform some not quite medical manipulations with me. But the main thing I cans say to this is not my preservation of power till 2014 but that he failed to change power in Georgia before the constitutional term", - Saakashvili is quoted by Rosbalt IA.

There is an impression Mikheil Nikolaevich is keeping he seat only to spite Russian leaders as a teenager at an awkward age. As it turned out his decision to go to the execution by the deputies was also to spite Putin. "I can't imagine Putin hearing so many speeches for 7 hours without starting to shoot his Iskander rockets", - he joked. TV viewers who are tired of the Georgian reality shows from prison cells liked the witticism.

Pro-government expert Giya Nodia was fast to announce the opposition's defeat.

"The president's main message was that the political crisis we had in spring or at the time when the opposition was trying to force the president to step down is over by way of prevention. That means the victory of authorities and the defeat of opposition, - was his final verdict.
