4068.jpegUkrainian specialists that serviced military equipment in Georgia last August were dismissed. The workers assert that they just performed "guarantee maintenance" of the air defense missile system. Thus, one of the accusations brought by the Russian General Prosecutor's Office proved true. Kiev has got little desire to mar its reputation in the eyes of the West...

Ukrainian General Prosecutor's Office (UGPO) started investigating the fact of Ukrainians' participation in the military actions in Georgia last August. Despite the denial of this fact by President Victor Yushchenko and General Staff, some of the materials provided by the Russian General Prosecutor's Office have already been confirmed.

Let us remind you that at the end of August, ICPO (Investigative Committee of the Prosecutor's Office) of Russia reported possessing the evidence of the fact that members of the Ukrainian nationalistic organization UNA-UNSO and representatives of the Ukrainian military forces took part in the war on the side of the Georgian armed units.

Last week, the source of Ukrainian newspaper Segodnya (Today) in UGPO confirmed that the Ukrainian specialists serviced the air defense systems of the Georgian Army during the war between Georgia and South Ossetia last August. "Not only did Ukraine sell ADMS Buk-M1 to Georgia at a reduced price but also sent there a group of civil specialists from the town of Balaklea of Kharkovskaya region; they were responsible for servicing the systems used by the Georgians to fire at the Russian warplanes», - the interlocutor informed. He specified that the group included Valeriy Kabanets, Dmitriy Pilipchuk, Vladimir Ponomarenko and several more people. They stayed in Georgia from May 5 till August 13 of last year, that is, until the beginning of, in the course of and after the armed conflict with South Ossetia. All of them deny any participation in military actions.

A source in the Prosecutor's Office underlined that someone is putting obstacles in the way of the investigative group, which has stated that the air defense systems, as well as other weapons and military equipment had been sold to Georgia at a price eight or more times lower than the real one. Meanwhile, there are 10 criminal cases on the fact of Ukrainians' participation in the military actions in Georgia awaiting the decision of Prosecutor General Alexander Medvedko.

The journalists of Today started off for Balaklea and met one of the suspects Valeriy Kabanets. He tried to avoid any conversation on the matter. "All your questions should be put to the plant that sent me on this mission. What military actions? I am an ordinary mechanic! We went to provide guarantee maintenance of the equipment bought by the Georgians", - he stated. Meanwhile, the Russian investigators suppose that the Ukrainian specialists operated the air defense systems during the conflict.

As Kabanets asserts, on August 8, the whole group of Ukrainians was locked in the hotel and stayed there for five days. "We flew back only when the EMERCOM planes came to take away the Ukrainian citizens. I was home on August 13", - summed up the employee of the repair works of Balaklea. However, there is a strange fact: as soon as the mechanics returned from Georgia, many of them were dismissed. The repair works refused to prolong Kabanets' labor contract as well. Why?
