  • Is there a way to stop Georgia’s decay? 2010-03-15 09:55 Tbilisi is promoting its new strategy of bringing back Abkhazia and South Ossetia, while the authorities of Tskhinval are closing the door to the past: they start delimitating the state border. The demarcation line should bring the republic even more territories than it has got at the moment. The Georgian opposition is appealing to the Kremlin for help to avoid further decay of the country. However, is Moscow able to help, and if so, is there any way to do it?
  • Georgian wine back to Russia? 2010-03-11 22:41 Hardly is there anyone who doubts abnormality of Russian-Georgian relations. The events of 2008 when two neighboring states turned into enemies for the first time in their history is simply beyond any reasonable explanation. Current developments in bilateral relations of two states are incomprehensible either – at least as far as return of Georgian produce to the Russian market is concerned.

Without them Mikheil Saakashvili’s meetings with influential politicians like Barack Obama are no more possible. Fight for Mayor’s seat

2009-11-03 14:32

"Our task is to nominate such a person for the post of Tbilisi mayor on behalf of the Christian-Democratic movement that has a good experience in management, whose name would be associated with constriction, not destruction", - Targamadze stated adding the party would present the candidate that might not be a party member. .

Alexander Shalamberidze, representing the United National movement, the ruling party, is going to run for Tbilisi mayor himself, GHN reports.

Koba Khabazi, a representative of the parliamentary majority forecasts that the number of mayoral candidates in Tbilisi will definitely grow thinking there will be up to ten (or even more) opposition candidates for the post of Tbilisi mayor. It is fair to remind that 13 (!) candidates were registered for extraordinary presidential elections which predestined Saakashvili's victory.

Now the expert community in Georgia thinks that if the non-parliamentary opposition nominates max two candidates there is a great possibility that current Tbilisi mayor Gigi Gugulava, now a pro-governmental candidate, will win since the opposition votes will be all split up.

Besides as the experts assert if Ugulava wins the election there will be redistribution of forces in the authorities.
