Union of Georgians in Russia does not mind a burden of a mediator2009-12-30 15:12
Union of Georgians in Russia is ready to provide any kind of assistance in the process of normalizing relationship between Russia and Georgia and, should there be a necessity, to become a mediator in the negotiations. As reported by President of the Union Mikhail Khubutia (see photo), he is ready to start off for Tbilisi any moment.
"It is very important that the thaw between our countries was duly completed and we reached the main purpose of normalizing relationship between our countries", - Mikhail Khubutia underlined, having expressed his readiness to become a mediator between the parties to resume flight connection between the countries.
According to Khubutia, Russia has done everything possible to resume direct flight connection between our countries and has performed all the possible formalities, which, however, cannot be said about the Georgian party. The Georgian authorities are creating obstacles for direct flight connection between the countries. Requests made by the Russian Ministry of Transport to the Georgian party to provide specific technical information about the flights were denied with a demand to send them repeatedly via the Swiss Embassy.
Yesterday, Ministry of Transport of Russia gave its consent for resuming the flights, including those on December 29 and 30. However, neither today, nor tomorrow will Georgian Airways be able to send the planes to Moscow for the reason of not being properly prepared. Now the Russian Ministry is awaiting the Georgian Airways' confirmation of the necessity of flights in January. Will they be realized successfully, or will the Georgians again find a dozen of reasons for delay?
"At this point, negotiations between Russia and Georgia on resuming the flight connection are disrupted. We do not feel like finding out the reason, for the parties are only going to blame each other. We are ready to make every possible effort to drive the negotiating process out of the deadlock, so that the dearest wish of our fellow countrymen, that is, getting home from Russia to Tbilisi by a direct plane instead of through some third party countries, could come true at last", - Khubutia stated.
He says that at the beginning of the year, in February, a meeting was held by Union of Georgians in Russia, which resulted in an appeal made by representatives of the Georgian expatriate community to the RF President Dmitriy Medvedev to resume flight connection between the countries and cancel the embargo on the Georgian products. A similar appeal was made to President of Georgia Mikhail Saakaashvili. The initiative of resuming charter flights that became known about in December was welcomed by the Union.
Now the Union of Georgians in Russia is ready to take the most active part in the process of normalizing relationship between the countries. "We are not going to let anyone interfere with the process. This is the wish and hope of both nations, the Georgian and the Russian one", - Khubutia said.
Let us remind you that on December 10, the speech delivered by President of Russia Dmitriy Medvedev at the 4th European-Asian media forum in Moscow became a pleasant surprise for those caring about relationship between our countries and those whose heart is bleeding for both Georgia and Russia.
When answering the questions of the journalists, Medvedev stated that there are no specific obstacles for making direct flights between Georgia and Russia, as well as for opening the Verkniy Lars near-border checkpoint. Besides, President of Russia Dmitriy Medvedev expressed hope that the time will come when the visa regime with Georgia will be cancelled.
