The coming year brings scandals for Georgia. Why?2010-01-03 12:10
At the end of the preceding year Sakartvelo survived several loud scandals attracting the national attention. All the scandals were characterized by one common trait: they developed around the notorious Freedom Institute. The latter is famous in Georgia for being the generator of ideas of the Rose Revolution initiators' ruling regime. What kind of organization is it? What kind of freedom does it teach and what has it got for the Georgian society in the coming year?
Leader of today's Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili was brought to power in November 2003 after the Rose Revolution. That was a poetical title of the coup organized by the USA and managed at the local level by the non-governmental organizations (NPO) sponsored by the USA. This was a new method tested by the United States of America.
It is not without reason that the Wall Street Journal unambiguously attributed the overthrowing of Shevardanze's regime to the operations performed by "the majority of non-governmental organizations supported by the American and other western foundations". The newspaper asserted that these NPOs "generated a whole class of young English-speaking intellectuals striving for the pro-western reforms". One of them was the 36 year-old graduate of the American University Mikhail Saakashvili.
According to the American researcher William F. Engdahl's publication in Online Journal (USA), it was the foundation of the American tycoon George Soros and the Freedom House headed by former Chief of CIA James Woolsey basing in the USA that were involved in Saakashvili's assuming office.
Cash injections were necessary. According to William Engdahl, the US state department sponsored the Georgian Institute of Freedom, where Saakashvili had worked, being a candidate approved by the USA for the replacement the stubborn Shevardnadze.
Thus, there are solid grounds for the currently prevailing opinion on the role of this NGO as an instrument of Washington's influence upon Tbilisi and the generator of ideas about the transformation of the Georgian society according to the foreign strategists' preference.
The main vector of the pro-American regimes' activity in the former "Soviet block" and former USSR countries implies cutting off the historical roots. The relevant technologies of manipulating the mass consciousness were specifically worked out in the Baltic republics. That is why, many actions undertaken by Saakashvili's government are quite predictable.
However, as is known, all the countries have got their own specific traits until they are brought to a common standard invented abroad. The distinctive features of Georgia mainly include Orthodoxy, which is the foundation of its spirituality, and love for art, which is the basis of its national character. Besides, Georgia is connected with Russia by the strong ties of its unique culture and Orthodox faith.
Perhaps, that is why the Institute of Freedom branch has focused its entire efforts upon these two pillars of the Georgian identity, without which the Georgians would lose their nature. Of course, one can make fun of the efforts of the current authorities, which are trying to make the country absolutely identical to the American state of Georgia. However, if the trick works, no one is going to laugh, especially the Georgians. The Georgian Institute of Freedom is working upon this project and the similar ones, positioning itself as the citadel of liberalism.
