Yushenko was scared by “the art of treason”2008-11-13 09:52
President Yushenko's team is trying to hamper the Ukrainian release of a documentary by Russia.ru TV channel called "War 08.08.08. The art of treason". This was stated by Verkhovnaya Rada deputy Valery Konovalyuk. According to him the premiere is under the threat of a breakdown.
Kiev's premiere of the film about the August conflict in South Ossetia is organized by the Russian Embassy in Ukraine and directly by Russia.ru television channel. The organizer from the Ukrainian side is this very Donetsk deputy of Verkhovnaya Rada from "Party of Regions" Valery Konovalyuk. On November 12 the film was to be shown in the Ukrainan Cinema House. But Yushenko's chancellery was quick to start "urgent presidential activities" there. The same was repeated in the palace of Arts of Ukraine. Now the premiere is planned in "Hayatt Regency Kiev" hotel. However Valery Konovalyuk reported that even this screening could be banned.
At the same time according to the report from the Ukrainian Security Service press center Valery Konovalyuk was summed there for questioning. According to this authority the investigative action towards this deputy is carried out within the framework of the criminal cases initiated against leakage of confidential information that constitutes the state secret. Alongside with this Ukrainian special services have expressed their opinion on the film itself.
"The movie is harmful to Ukraine's national security", - the Security Service of Ukraine believes. The plot is based on the false assertions of a Russian internet edition about Ukrainian citizens taking part in the Russian-Georgian conflict. These facts were forged by law-enforcement agencies and special services of the Russian Federation and were disproved by international experts and international organizations long ago".
Besides Ukrainian special services give an official warning to the deputy of the liability for dissemination of information "prepared in collaboration with the Federal Security Service of Russia and creating artificial tension in the Ukrainian-Russian neighborly relationships".
The deputy however denies being summoned for questioning.
"This is a proactive venture of the Ukrainian authorities that is aimed at the breakdown of the movie screening where the facts of Ukraine's arms sales to Georgia were exposed. The authorities try to hamper the disclosure of the information in the presence of representatives of Western embassies and journalists that were invited to the premiere" - he stated promising another series of exposures. According to him "new data arrive daily. Today they will surely be announced".
It is obvious that Konovalyuk is going to disclose another "state secret" at the premiere. The peculiarity of the Ukrainian statehood is that the secret became known long before the show. In South Ossetia the deputy found out that over 15 Ukrainians had taken part in the August war in favor of Georgia. These are certain "military specialists". The deputy brought their passport data and video records from Tskhinval that testify to their "participation in the conflict".
