A disservice for Black Sea

The agreement between Tbilisi and Moscow on Russia's accession to the WTO was signed, but the Caucasian republic not simply replaces Russian border guards with the Georgians. The document does not provide control over maritime boundaries, and they are also known to be a matter of dispute for Abkhazia, which got sovereignty three years ago. The United States of America rushed to render support Mikhail Saakashvili: they will create logistics on the Black Sea coast for Sakartvelo.

It is obvious that for the Georgian government it is a nightmare, if the Abkhazs avoid control over 80 percent of trade turnover in the partially recognized republic. Once Tbilisi introduced total economic blockade for Tskhinval and Sukhum, Russian Federation and Turkey were the only trading partners of the "disgraced" states. Ankara has got its own problems, including Nagorno-Karabakh, war in Iraqi Kurdistan, as well as Turkish-Israeli conflict, and it does not care of the territorial dispute between the two Caucasian republics. But Moscow is not going to turn a blind eye to such an unfair situation.

As it turned out, Georgia has thoroughly prepared for the consequences of the agreement on Russia's accession to the WTO. Since the document does not imply control over maritime boundaries, and this problem should be solved, Tbilisi has again complained to Washington, pleading them to assist in such difficult confrontation. Therefore, the U.S. and Britain are going to patrol Black Sea basin together with Sakartvelo Navy, ostensibly to ensure the overall safety of navigation and the creation of a "filter" of transporting drugs and other prohibited goods. However, as we know, cunning Americans still cannot find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, but Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein has long been strung up on the gallows after "mob law" of the White House and its allies. So we can assume that the joint Black Sea patrol would get to the water area of Abkhazia.

The Armenian edition Lragir indicates that one of the options, proposed by the Georgians, implies the construction of a port near the border with Abkhazia. According to reports, the Georgian side has prepared technical documentation on the construction of a naval base in the port of Poti, which would receive large ships. All of this requires a little more than $ 11 million. Even given the difficult economic situation the U.S., it is not so big money for an opportunity to control their Caucasian vassal.

However, the U.S. administration decided to help Georgia not for free. In the event of military action, the closed waters of the Black Sea are under control of Turkey because of the Bosporus and Dardanelles straits, and Washington decided to show Ankara that not only Turkey may become a place for basing ships of the United States and Britain. It is obvious that the Turkish Republic would doubt in legality of transformation of the port of Batumi into the naval base, and thus they would feel aggrieved. And it is doubtful that Washington and London will allow them to participate in such a strategic matter.

Thus, Russia, which reacts to the visit of strangers to Black Sea very sensitive, would gladly take the side of Turkey. In June this year, American anti-missile cruiser "Monterey" arrived into the waters of Ukraine, and caused confusion in Moscow, which agreed to restart policy with Washington. After all, the presence of a warship in the waters of the country, which even is not NATO member, is a testament to the hostile rhetoric that the Alliance carries out against Russia.
