Elections in the RSO: Wasted Money?2012-03-26 17:46
Last Sunday, South Ossetia was again choosing president. Evening of March 25, the head of the CEC of the republic Bella Pliyeva announced results of the first round. Former head of the KGB Leonid Tibilov took the leading position with 41.94% of the votes. David Sanakoev, South Ossetian Ombudsman, member of Kokoity's team, received 25.36% of the votes. The country believes that Tibilov will become new president. But Sanakoev's supporters believe that Eduard Kokoity won't tolerate defeat "of his candidate".
On Sunday, polling stations opened all over the country. Residents of the South Ossetian capital voted one of the first.
According to GTimes special correspondent, no violations were reported in Tskhinval. But during the day there were allegations of violations in Leningor district. They say, violations were reported on the side of Sanakoev's supporters. GTimes correspondent witnessed conversations of South Ossetian residents, brought specially from Vladikavkaz, asking each other something like "how much money were you paid". One has received a thousand rubles, another - three thousand. They were speaking about the cost of elections. The people were outraged, why Sanakoev's supporters had paid different money to different people. Representatives of Medoyev, Tibilov and Kochiev have been making lists of violations. But Tibilov's staff hasn't taken actions on those cases, since
they learned that their leader took the first place.
David Sanakoev took the second place. According to GTimes special correspondent, people from a certain NGO and Eduard Kokoity's supporters stand behind him. Tibilov and Sanakoev have passed into the second round. Unless, of course, the election are canceled.
Our correspondent believes that the elections in South Ossetia were held successfully. "David Sanakoev, Eduard Kokoity's man, has passed to the second round, so he has a chance. The head of the Supreme Court of South Ossetia, Atsamaz Bichenov, is the associate and relative of Kokoity".
What may South Ossetia expect after the election? "If David Sanakoev wins, nothing changes in South Ossetia. Kokoity's people remain in power. If Leonid Tibilov wins, the country also shouldn't wait for some preferences and development", our correspondent believes.
David Sanakoev stated he hoped for support of Kochiev and Medoyev. But in this scenario, Kochiev is likely to support Tibilov. And Leonid Tibilov told reporters that the government had prepared a place for his opponents. Sanakoev, Medoyev and Kochiev are very intelligent and educated people who have done much for South Ossetia, Tibilov believes. The country needs such people.
Tibilov said he wasn't offended by those uncomplimentary remarks that sounded in his address on the part of some of his opponents and was ready to work with them. The main thing for him is the consolidation of society. When asked by GTimes correspondent, whether presidential candidate was going to return Stanislav Kochiev for the post of parliament speaker, Tibilov said: "I do not understand why Kochiev was removed from the post of the parliament speaker".
Alla Dzhioeva announced elections of March 2012 illegitimate in advance. But her people were near Tibilov at the time of the elections. "There is one simple reason for: they were asked about this by Dzambolat Tedeev. Tibilov had such a strong PR campaign since he was supported by very influential people from St. Petersburg. In particular, the former Vladimir Putin's judo trainer", GTimes correspondent reported from Tskhinval.
