A trip to Georgian dream

2012-04-23 13:36

Georgian province is poor, and life there, they say, is futile. But in the heart of the country there is a whole area which destroys all the stereotypes. This is Sachkhere, a large administrative district in the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains. Nature of the Sachkherian "miracle" is clear - this is the birthplace of the oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili. We present our special project - a trip to Georgian dream, where people already live in the future, promised by the tycoon Ivanishvili to all of Georgia. Our Azerbaijani correspondent Kama Rzayeva has made this trip.

We've spent this Easter in Sachkherian district. We wanted to see with own eyes how the things are in the village and the area where the richest man in Georgia was born. And this was impressive.

Sachkherian region is located in the east of the Imereti. No one leaves this place; there are a lot of people willing to relocate here. The first thing you notice upon entering the Sachkhere - this is roads. Smooth surface of these roads allows vehicle to move forward, as if sliding on the track. And this contrasts with those roads we had to ride on before we entered the territory of the region.

The city is neat and comfortable. Burgundy and dark green roofs of type houses, manicured lawns in front of the houses, hospitable and friendly people - all of this is an indication that people here have no concern about their daily bread. People, living in the Sachkherian area, are very calm, balanced and good-natured. We met with local residents at the cemetery, the day after Christ's resurrection, when they had come to visit the graves of their loved ones.

We've also met here a local couple, Murtaza and Eka, and later visited their place. They have a small four-room house near the city center. Bidzina Ivanishvili granted them this house. After the wedding, young Murtaza lived with his parents, and when Ivanishvili began to take an active part in their lives, they got this house. They are happy to show it to us. When the family gave birth to the twin sons, Ivanishvili gave them the car "Niva". Murtaza and Eka are one of hundreds of families who got help from Ivanishvili. And he did a lot here. He has built schools, medical center, a guest house for health care workers of the center, recreation center, football stadium, swimming pool and much more.

We should tell more about the medical center. For example, the fact that it operates for free for the residents of Sachkhere region. You can get a complete examination, qualified medical care and a referral to the clinic in Tbilisi if it is necessary. Mainly the doctors from the capital, or even from abroad, work here. There is a guest house for all the health professionals. Doctors live here the whole week. The entire staff gets payroll from Bidzina Ivanishvili.

A cultural center, which is called the ritual house, takes special place in the city. This is place of wedding and funeral processions, as well as for the others memorable event. Each pair, recording its marriage here, receives an amount of two thousand dollars as a capital for the needs of the future family life. Live music, guest service - all of this is also free.

As soon as you leave the Sachkherian region, the contrast is striking. In comparison to the villages of Sachkhere, neighboring villages of Chiatura lose much. The roads need a repairing; locals have problems with water and gas. When we went into the first house, the whole family sat around the stove, which was heated by wood. This situation seems sacring for a man who came here a couple of hours ago. Light from the stove, a huge vat, intricate shadows on the walls and an elderly Georgian woman are like scenes from old films. But people who live here see everything differently. It's just ordinary, unsettled life for them.
