Georgia does not need opposition teacher?2012-06-07 16:42
"By the end of my term as president of Georgia, there will be no school that would be worse than the American or French". These are the words of President Mikheil Saakashvili who led the reform of education. And everything has started with the fact that all teachers of schools or preschools were frightened and turned into his henchmen. He is personally solving the fate of teachers: to work or to be fired.
Dzhafaridze sisters are well-known people in Adjara, honored teachers with great experience, working for the good of the country in a rural school Achkviti. Their students have always successfully finished school and entered institutes of higher education.
All the sisters were fired simultaneously. The reason for this decision was numerous absenteeism without a good cause, as well as disruption of the educational process, associated with it. This was what the Deputy Minister of Education of Adjara told them.
Lia Dzhafaridze: "We have filed a complaint, addressed to all authorities, but to no avail - we're still without job. We were fired from the school with such a reputation that now no school will take us to job".
The second Dzhafaridze sister: "In my private column there is no even a single non-attendance during the year, even with good reason. But we were fired at the insistence of the MP Koba Khabazi, on behalf of Government of Adjara, led by Deputy Minister of Education George Chahnashvili, for disrespectful absenteeism and disruption of the educational process".
The third sister: "They have not forgiven us the negative statements about the government in the transport or among friends. They don't care who we are! The main thing is to be their mouthpiece".
Dzhafaridze sisters have got many awards such as "the foremost people in public education" and "Best Teacher of the Year".
"We were told, "we will restore you if you work on behalf of the opposition, but on the government side", one of the dismissed teachers said. "We will never commit such a dishonorable act".
"Even more bizarre were the words of the head of Kobuleti Municipality: "You're right, I feel sorry for you, but I can't help you. As you can see, they have great help from the other side, so you have the right to go into opposition; in your place I would have done this". This is ridiculous, we are set up in opposition, that's why it has happened to us", Dzhafaridze sisters said.
"Today it happens to us, and tomorrow it will happen to others. We must unite and get out of this ditch slop of Saakashvili's hell", the laid-off teachers appealed to their colleagues.
We met with a high school teacher Tina Kelendzheridze. She came in Tbilisi from the village of Dimi, Bogdad region. Kelendzheridze is political leader of the coalition "Georgian Dream" in Bogdad region.
"Merab Kvirikashvili, the director of our school, not concealing said that I was write a letter of resignation on my own at the request of the district leader. Of course, I refused. This happened in late April, and in early May all teachers of the Bogdad region were forced to write letters of resignation on their own under the order of the Minister of Education Shashkin, supposedly due to changes in labor regulations. The point is that teachers who do not share the views of Saakashvili's government won't work in the new academic year", she said.
Tina Kelendzheridze says her friend and colleague, a certified teacher Natroshvili Nino, a mother of five children, the spouse of a disabled, also will be fired.
