Israel is ready to blow up Middle East2012-08-09 16:30
The Israeli leadership consider Iran's nuclear program a "security threat to Israel and the entire world". As is known, Netanyahu does not intend to wait until his country suffers a missile attack. Who throws the first punch? This question is still open. GTimes correspondent found out what is the state of the missile arsenals of both countries and what are their military capabilities.
Israel has entered the twenty-first century with the so-called "triad" - rocket-nuclear means, basing in three elements: on land, at sea and in the air. Land component is 16 ballistic missiles class "Jericho". According to "The Military Balance", this missile is capable to deliver one-piece warhead with a capacity of up to 100 kilotons at a distance of up to 1800 km.
The aerial part is the bombers "Sufa". Range of flight of its cruise missile is 550 miles. Each of the "Sufa" is capable of carrying 60 kilotons of TNT. The range of the "Sufa" without refueling in the air is 900 miles. Adding to these miles the missile range we get the result in the form of a crushing blow at a distance of up to 2500 meters from the position of the launch of the aircraft-launch rocket. In other words, one aircraft "Sufa" is able to destroy the main military facilities of the Arab countries and Iran.
The maritime component of the nuclear "triad" of Israel is four submarines. Each of them has four launchers for cruise missiles of the type "Gabriel-3", class "surface-to-surface". This rocket can be launched from surface position and capable to carry a nuclear warhead with a capacity of 60 kilotons of TNT with the speed of 600 nautical miles. The Israeli submarines are capable of delivering a nuclear strike on any point within the waters of the Mediterranean, the Red and the Arabian Seas.
Let's talk about Iran, more precisely, about missiles "Shahab-3". This is a single-stage liquid propellant missile. The serial production of the "Shahab" started in Iran only in late 2003, with the help of Chinese companies. By August 2004, Iranian engineers slightly modified rocket: they reduced the size of the head part, upgraded propulsion system and increased fuel capacity. The missile, which received the name "Shahab-3M", has the form of a bottle neck. The true purpose of the "Shahab-3M" is unknown, because the defense program of Iran is strictly classified. We can tell exactly that the range of flight of "Shahab-3M" is 1,100 kilometers, and its weight is one ton.
By August 2007, Iranian engineers modernized "Shahab-3M", reducing the weight of the warhead and thereby increasing the maximum range of fire. The upgraded missile was named "Gadr" ("Predetermination"). The rocket "Gadr-1", demonstrated in September 2007, can hit the target at a distance of 1600 km.
In 2009, Tehran announced the creation of a solid-fuel rocket "Sajil" class "ground-to-ground". The rocket "Sajil-2" has a diameter of 1.25 meters, length of 18 meters and a maximum takeoff weight of 21.5 tons, which allows using the mobile way of basing. The range of this missile, with the weight of the head part of 1 ton, which implies a 750-kilogram warhead, is 2200 km. After decreasing the weight of the warhead up to 500 kg, the range can be increased to 3 thousand kilometers. But conditional enemy of Iran have nothing to fear, since such a missile cannot have a nuclear warhead.
