Paraphilia of Saakashvili's era

On the air of "Rustavi-2", in the program "Postscript", Prosecutor General of Georgia stated the existence of new scandalous materials, "even the thought of which makes a normal person shudder". However, statements by Archil Kbilashvili were careful enough this time. He did not say the word "footage" - he said "there are facts". These terrifying facts are the continuation of a series of materials about the torture of prisoners in Georgian prisons. The prosecutor did not specify whether this time the site of action was the same Gldani prison.

"We have seen a broom in prisons, blackmail of homosexuals, but we still have a lot of horrific information and material of another kind. Imagination of the previous authorities had no limits", said Mr. Kbilashvili said indignantly.

"Imagine how the prisoner was forced to look at the footage depicting the rape of his family member. Or a man buried up to his neck in the ground, and they are peeing over his head. We are investigating into these facts. We are witnessing a surprisingly inadequate and deviant reality, but we are even not surprised", says Kbilashvili.

The first footage of arbitrariness in Georgian prisons was shown on the air of the opposition Georgian TV channels in September 2012, right before the election. The society responded briskly; mass rallies were held. It was the final chord in the requiem to Saakashvili's party. And later the society expressed considerable interest to the reports of the homosexuals. Interestingly, there were more talks about the fact whether it was necessary to show a scandalous gay video. And, accordingly, there appeared libels against prosecutors who had spread this footage. President Mikheil Saakashvili made a statement saying that he intended to punish those prosecutors who had shown these videos to the world. And not a word about punishment of those guilty of these atrocities. Actions in defense of the rights of sexual minorities, harsh statements of various non-governmental organizations for the protection of human rights and the Charter of Journalism in relation of the legality and ethics of the publication of this footage, as well as unreasonable demands to the prosecutors to apologize have also played a significant role in the fact that public attention has moved from the main topic to the secondary.

But the Prosecutor's Office is not going to apologize. What for? "When a doctor identifies a disease and diagnoses patients, does he apologize for this? We acted as a mirror, displaying the horrors that had been not only invented in the deviant imagination of these people, but, unfortunately, also carried out in reality", Mr. Kbilashvili said.

And yet, if we do not move away from the main topic, allowing NGOs to do their work, how can we estimate the acts of the officials and prison staff, who excelled in inventing methods of torture? They buried a man in the ground up to his neck and peed on him. Who and why needed to humiliate human dignity?

In these terms, unmasking activities of the Prosecutor's Office - this is one of the achievements of the new government. The very existence of such facts in the community is outrageous.

As noted by Vladimir Bedukadze, one of those thanks to whom this footage has been published, he hopes that the inhuman treatment in Georgian prisons is eradicated. Is not this an achievement?
