Do the physicians know how to starve?2013-03-12 18:18
Today, in Gldani there was held a large-scale action in support of laid-off ambulance physicians hungering on this connection. Outside the ambulance center, there have gathered not only employees of the institution and colleagues of the dismissed physicians. Some patients also came to support the protesting physicians. For example, among them there were parents of a 4-month-old baby who had been rescued by the service workers from certain death. While the average employees are trying to restore justice, deputy director of the ambulance center Irma Nergadze is ringing round the employees and threatening them with problems at work if they do not stop the rally.
This is the fourth day when the four physicians of Tbilisi ambulance center are keeping a strict diet, which involves only the intake of water. The fifth, Zviad Chabukiani, joined them last night, on March 10. He agrees with the demands of colleagues and believes they were fired illegally.
After a long discussion the doctors put forward their major requirements - to add twenty new crews, to improve the general working conditions, to restore the four dismissed employees and to create an action team for monitoring to deprive the administration of the right to take sole unfair decision.
Doctors demand a change of administration, namely the dismissal of the head of the center Kakha Chikhradze, who is accused of conspiring with several clinics, which, they believe, are unqualified, and in which patients rather get harm than competent professional aid.
The dismissed doctors have installed two tents in the courtyard of the ambulance center of Gldani - Nadzaladevi district. Tents are decorated with inscriptions "Kakha Chikhradze threatens the health of Tbilisi residents, Kakha Chikhradze is a liar". The doctors chose this form of protest immediately after the dismissal without specifying the reason. Doctors themselves account their dismissal for the criticism of the management. According to the explanations of the ambulance center manager, former center physician Zura Lataria, they were instructed to bring the patients not to specialized clinics, but to the so-called emergencies, where patients receive first-aid, and only after that they are transferred to specialized clinics.
"We are appealing against the wrong hospitalization, indicating the administration that the patients cannot be taken to non-core hospitals. As a result of such procedure patients of mild or moderate severity, for example, cardiac patients may be hospitalized close to seriously ill and dying patients, or even worse, to infectious patients. When we pointed this fact, Mr. Chikhradze decided to dismiss us", said the emergency doctor Tsiala Kashia.
And the head of the center Kakha Chikhradze, who is accused of all mortal sins, denies any wrongdoing and cites the creation of disorder and chaos as a motive for dismissal.
The director claims there were dismissed junior doctors Levan Lataria, Levan Lomsianidze and Tsiala Kashia, as well as deputy manager of the 11th district service Zura Lataria. "We have recorded numerous violations on the part of the above workers. Namely, during business hours, that is at a time when they were to perform their duties, they, along with supporters, held a protest rally outside the center building and urged all employees to join them. After that one of the junior doctors Tsiala Kashia burst into the room of monitoring team and urged employees to join the protest action. I also want to note that doctors are not allowed arranging strike and participating in the protest during working hours, because these actions threaten the health and lives of the population", said in a statement by Kakha Chikhradze.
