Ivanishvili is searching for terrorists2013-04-30 13:48
In Georgia, there existed training facilities for the North Caucasian terrorists, is it true? Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili has stated of the need to conduct an investigation primarily related to the circumstances of a special operation in the Lopota Gorge in September 2012, when 11 suspected members of illegal armed groups were killed. What is the position of the main opponents of Prime Minister - President Saakashili and his team - in this regard?
Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili has serious suspicions that the country trained terrorists. Speaking on Georgian TV, Ivanishvili said that the operation in the Lopota Gorge had raised many questions, and it was required to investigate all the circumstances of the case. Ivanishvili made reference to the report of the Public Defender of Georgia Ucha Nanuashvili who also asked the law enforcement agencies of Georgia to sort out this special operation.
"We have received information from confidential sources that last spring 120 people from arrived to Georgia Chechnya," Nanuashvili's report says. "Specially for these people senior Interior Ministry officers rented an apartment in Tbilisi. Georgian authorities have promised to provide them with the corridor," says Ombudsman.
According to him, the training of these people took place at Vaziani and Shavnabadsky military bases, and the Interior Ministry officials supplied them with weapons and documents. From those confidential sources Ombudsman has learned that the group of Chechen militants was directly linked to the former Deputy Interior Minister Gia Lordkipanidze and senior officials of the Ministry Sandro Amiridze and Zura Maisuradez.
Ivanishvili said that the words of Nanuashvili contained significant information, but that did not confirm that the terrorists had been trained in Georgia. "I have a strong suspicion in this regard, but I will refrain from conclusions. Let's wait for the results of the investigation. Perhaps we will learn the shocking details about the cooperation of the authorities and the terrorists. As for the statements on the fact that it will hit the prestige of the country, I wanna tell you that if we investigate the case by ourselves nothing can hit us, of course," said Ivanishvili.
Despite the fact that Ivanishvili does not totally acknowledge the veracity of these facts, the reaction from the main political opponents was immediate. President Mikheil Saakashvili has declared the inadmissibility of a "dangerous game with such issues." "At a time when Boston terrorist attack was arranged by the Chechens, when talking about such things Ivanishvili is unlikely to realize in what a dangerous affair he involves not only me or himself, but the entire country," said the President. Saakashvili made the statement in the United States, adding that the U.S. had enough intelligent people not to pay serious attention to such statements. He also added that the Premiere's words entirely corresponded to the propaganda waged by Russia against Georgia over the years "in order to weaken the country and capture it." Saakashvili denies a possible connection of terrorist groups to his power. He advised members of the Cabinet of Ministers of Georgia to indicate Ivanishvili the fact that he should not make such statements.
