Georgia: authorities and opposition keep pursuing their own interests
A month since the start of the protest rallies President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has finally met with the non-parliamentary opposition leaders. Tbilisians hoped they would reach some kind of agreement which would free the city from heaps of street garbage and traffic jams. But… the opposition announced extension of rallies calling for “total mobilization” of the people.

During the meeting with the oppositional leaders demanding his resignation, President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili proposed to announce a moratorium on all the administrative offences committed by people in the course of the protest actions. European diplomats are in favor of Saakashvili’s proposal but the human rights defenders treat it as the authorities’ attempt to avoid responsibility, calling to maintain the supremacy of law.
