Tbilisi to quarrel with Ankara over Buket?
Georgia’s scandalous detention of Turkish Buket in the neutral waters and 24 years’ imprisonment for her captain might affect Tbilisi-Ankara relations. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already reported on violation of international law by Georgia and intention to put diplomatic pressure on Georgia. Vashadze goes to make peace with Yerevan
Georgia has been a multinational country at all times. However, on obtaining independence, polyethnicity became a heavy burden for the authorities. Passions are running high around the recognition of independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and now relationship with another neighbor, Armenia, is also strained. Recently, President Serzh Sargsyan stressed the expediency of granting the regional status to the Armenian language and the necessity of legal registration of the Armenian apostolic church. Yesterday, a criminal incident took place at the border, while the media started talking about Armenia again. This is not going to do any good to the neighborly relations. Tomorrow, Head of the Georgian MFA Grigol Vashadze is going to Yerevan with a two-day business visit. Will he manage to settle the escalated issues?

This is a repetition of the hoary scenario frequently used by official Tbilisi: provocation-reaction-appeal to the world community.
Journalists as top hazard for Tbilisi?
Since last August events the Russian-Georgian relations have been maintained only at the level of people’s diplomacy. The diplomatic relations between the countries are torn up. Yesterday’s “round table” on settlement of Georgian-Russian relations was under threat of failure. The representatives of the Russian delegation – First Channel host, Public Chamber Member Maxim Shevchenko and Izvestia Chief Editor Vladimir Mamontov were not permitted to enter Tbilisi. If even the people’s diplomacy can’t be faultless it means a new confrontation is inevitable, doesn’t it? GeorgiaTimes correspondent2009-09-04 14:09
Opposition on siesta

The Georgian opposition decided to stop permanent rallies joining elaboration of the country’s election code. Nomination of opposition candidates for Tbilisi Mayor position is now actively discussed. Does this mean the political crisis is over? Are the opposition leaders that openly admit their presidential ambitions content with the municipal portfolios?
