Resolution as a reproach to Russia
Today in Strasbourg the issue of extension of powers of the Russian delegation at the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) will be settled. Earlier Tbilisi had achieved adoption of a resolution with new requirements for Moscow in follow up to the discussion of the War Between Georgia and Russia: a year on report. However the amendments on possible sanctions for default were not approved.
New prosecutor promises transparency
Georgia is facing personnel changes again. First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Legal Matters Murtaz Zodelava was appointed Chief Prosecutor of Georgia. Part of the parliamentary opposition disapproves of this appointment, while Saakashvili is strengthening his positions, assigning his supporters to the key posts. What makes PACE’s head ache
Recently the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly adopted the resolution “The War Between Georgia and Russia: one year after”. As most Russian, Georgian and Western media report the EU parliamentarians were quite tough on Russia. Is it really so and what is the European community’s role in settling the Georgian-Russian confrontation? The GeorgiaTimes correspondent was trying to find it out from Georgian and Russian experts.
