Georgia Intimidated: Hitchcock is no match
Why is Mikheil Saakashvili still president after all mistakes he has committed? The answer is obvious: because he keeps all Georgia in fear. A poster all around Tbilisi features the head of the country finger-pointing and asking: “Haven’t you been arrested yet?” Prisons operate like Stakhanov machines. Police measures as well as death threats are widely in use. Recently the opposition has risen to defend top managers of Trialeti regional TV company publicly threatened with death by the authorities.2010-12-06 12:53
OSCE summit: lack of talent in a perfect shape
OSCE summit in Astana has failed. Its final declaration is nothing but general phrases. The Kazakhs who took so much pain to technically prepare for the summit could not make its participants find any common points in the disputable issues. Georgia found itself in the center of events; Georgian delegates came to Kazakhstan in hope of winning the main prize: the “conflicts in Georgia” phrase in the final declaration. The outcome of the Astana OSCE summit suggests the idea that the organization will hardly get over its many-year crisis.
