Kutaisi Memorial Immortalized in Moscow
Moscow has had another monument dedicated to the Great Patriotic War. The statuary group "We Were Together in Our Fight against Fascism" was erected on the Poklonnaya Hill. It captured the moment when the Georgian Meliton Kantaria and the Russian Nikolay Egorov hoisted the Banner of Victory over the Reichstag. As one of the monument authors, Charman of the Russion Union of Artists Andrey Kovalchuk told us in his interview to GeorgiaTimes, the explosion of the Memorial of Fame in Kutaisi made him think: was the victory really common for all USSR republics?
Tbilisi vulgarizes the notion of independence
Blowing up the Glory Memorial in Kutaisi a year ago was like a start pistol shot marking the beginning of a new turn of anti-Russian hysteria in official Tbilisi. Trying to prove to the whole world their right to independence, Georgian rulers resort to most barbarian methods and like most fervent opponents of Herostratus they simply destroy their own history. GeorgiaTimes correspondent discussed what this self-affirmation attempt can lead to with Gulbaat Rtskhiladze, head of the Institute of Eurasia (Tbilisi).2010-12-21 17:27
Explosion in Kutaisi: causes and consequences
The current regime in Georgia has long forsaken the notion of the Great Patriotic War. Soviet occupation museums, textbooks rewritten, monuments to the warriors who died for "territorial integrity" of the republic are attributes of Saakashvili’s Georgia. That is why when Glory Memorial was blown up in Kutaisi last year many people just shook their heads tired of Mishiko’s blasphemy. However, as time shows, the Georgian leader has to face his Russophobia on his own. People in both countries favored reconstruction of the Memorial analog in Poklonnaya Gora in Moscow. And today is the opening day.
