People of the Year: the patriarch and the political brawler
In all appearances, the expiring year has got two faces of Janus in the eyes of the Georgians. There is no other explanation for the Georgian choice of the People of the Year. What is there in common between Patriarch Ilia II and the scandalous founder of WikiLeaks Julian Assange, who were both named to be the People of the Year in Georgia? In the opinion of Sakartvelo citizens, Assange is a man that has much value for the world, while the Patriarch is the most important figure in Georgia. That seems to be symbolic: Georgia often goes to extremes, being unable to find the middle way.
Is Abkhazia ready for Russian money?
Russian president Dmitry Medvedev signed the law on ratification of the treaty on stimulation and joint protection of investments with Abkhazia. Abkhaz ambassador to Russia Semen Grigoriev introduced Yuri Aykin taking charge of the Russian trade representation in the republic to the president. All that means that Russian business will be present in Abkhazia on legal terms bringing more security.

WikiLeaks revealing Georgia’s secrets to NATO
Wikileaks materials are very popular in Georgia. You bet: that’s another chance to grit one’s teeth, let one’s bile out and, ultimately, feel sorry for oneself. This time, Tbilisi seized upon the information that France was ready to “make a positive sign” to Georgia at the NATO summit in Bucharest, though it spoke against providing the Membership Action Plan to the republic.
