Mestia, a new ski resort in Svanetia, opened the season at the turn of the New Year. Instead of lacking snow, there was Ukrainian salo and inauguration of the first and only Mestia’s twin in Estonia – Otepya ski resort with an off-beat name. South Ossetia putting lari out of doors
Year of 2011 made an unlucky start in Georgia in financial terms. Lari fluctuations in respect of dollar may provoke a price growth in the consumer market. However, the experts suggest that one should not panic, trying to prove that the fall of the Georgian national currency is a natural process. Even the National Bank’s efforts aimed at the forcible checking of the lari rate failed: lari has been going downhill for the whole of the previous year. Besides, South Ossetia started pouring oil on flames: it will prohibit lari circulation in its territory from this year on.
