Financial Holocaust in Georgia
The tragedy that happened on January 11 in Krtsanisi where several servicemen died because of an explosion has shadowed another event: the continuation of legal proceedings over two Israeli businessmen kept in Georgian jail since last October. In this case, Georgian legislation has once again confirmed its reputation of a structure “in law”, an obedient executor of criminal orders of the republic’s government. It doesn’t matter that the country’s image was damaged in the eyes of Israel due to the ordered proceedings: the price of the story with Israeli businessmen is high enough – one hundred million dollars.
Moscow and Tbilisi united by criminals
Georgia is ready to call Russia for extradition of Givi Kutateladze, son of former security minister, and his friend Alexander Vepkhvadze. Their portraits are posted on the official site of police as “wanted with a GEL 30,000 reward”. But their whereabouts are not a secret. Late in September they were stopped by Russian border guards crossing the Psou river that divides Russia and Abkhazia. The day after tomorrow the court of Krasnodar will rule out a punitive measure for illegal border crossing.
Little time left for Georgian-Russian file?
The future of the notorious Georgian-Russian file concerning the events of August 2008 will probably be decided upon in Paris today. In these latter days, PACE has been rather listening to Moscow’s substantiated arguments then to Tbilisi’s hysterical attempts of promoting the idea of “de-occupation”, so there is a possibility that the document will simply be put on the shelf. Still, Sakartvelo diplomats keep convulsing: Georgian delegation refused to participate in the file discussion. Perhaps, they realized that the battle is lost.2011-01-18 19:00
Vashadze set to establish order in Karabakh
Georgian FM Grigol Vashadze can’t calm down stating that his country will act as a mediator between Armenia and Azerbaijan to settle Nagorny Karabakh conflict. He calls to use norms of international law to ensure effective negotiations. Tbilisi’s concern in this awkward issue looks more like a bull-in-a-china-shop situation, or even a completely mad bull. Everyone knows how good Georgia is in solving its domestic problem of territorial integrity.
