“Helpless” Tbilisi hiding behind NATO rostrum
Georgian authorities are having a holiday – never mind that they are not allowed to NATO: NATO itself has come to Sakartvelo. A seminar of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Alliance is currently held in Tbilisi. Top persons of the government are complaining from the rostrum about Russia. These accusations sound absurd: Moscow wants to attack, Moscow is going to devour the small neighbour, Moscow wants to stop the Georgian “democratic development”. In other words, Sakartvelo authorities are in every way pushing NATO towards the simple idea that the small helpless Georgia needs being urgently protected. Against Russia, of course.
Even Thieves Abandon Mishiko
Vato Kipiani, a former mafia boss, has been detained in Moscow for a minor slip-up that has nothing to do with his turbulent past. Kipiani wanted to “shut down” his business partner claiming a forfeit penalty for a bankrupt enterprise. Instead of bringing money, the relatives of the “detainee” brought a police squad with them. Now the crime boss from Georgia is charged with kidnapping and money extortion. Kipiani insists that the so called hostage is an agent of Georgian special services that came to kill him on Saakashvili’s personal order.
Ministers deceive Sakartvelo’s parliament
PM Nika Gilauri made an ardent speech in front of parliament advertising the strategic development plan supposed to be implemented soon. The government has eradicated corruption, monopolism and protectionism, ceaselessly protecting the country from inflation. The only thing to be done is to become a reserve energy supplier in Europe – that’s it! Yet, indexes presented by the PM differ from reports of finance and economy ministers. Day of insubordination to Saakashvili
Trying to erase the population’s memory of the old Soviet holidays, the Georgian authorities are surely dreaming of a peaceful and quiet May beginning. But the mellow mood of the republic leaders will be broken anyway: according to Nino Burdzhanadze, the Georgian opposition chose the 2nd of May as the Day of National Insubordination. And if the May Day and the Day of the Victory can still be cancelled in Tbilisi, the actions of Mikhail Saakashvili’s opponents will surely become reality for the ruling regime.
