Sakartvelo’s celebrity future
Georgian authorities by their actions have often caused doubts as to having got any real plans on how to rule the country. The official Tbilisi is tossing about. The basis of the state’s wealth is said to lie in investments attraction and the next moment it is said to consist in agriculture development. But the favourite subject of the ruling establishment is tourism development. Besides, in the opinion of President Mikhail Saakashvili, it is the coming celebrities and movie stars who are to form the main advertising resource.
Mishiko dreads loneliness
Mikheil Saakashvili stubbornly insists on Singaporization of his country. Very soon, with the progress of liberal reforms, Georgia will join the ranks of prosperous countries to melt into an ecstasy with the European Union and the North Atlantic alliance. Then “the beacon of democracy” in Caucasus will shine with double force. In the meantime, Russia has a different future, as it is believed in Tbilisi. The supplier of raw materials feeding half of the globe, is a great concern for the leaders of the Caucasian republic that is slowly but inevitably disappearing from the political map.
European Union to look after Saakashvili
Brussels is going to replace the head of the European Union mission in the Caucasus. Now Andrzej Tyszkiewicz, a Pole, will keep an eye on the brave Georgian Rambos who are so fond of provoking conflicts at the border with Abkhazia and South Ossetia. As was expected, the official Tbilisi has already started heaping praises upon the new supervisor. It is unclear so far, though, whether Tyszkiewicz will imitate his predecessor Hansjörg Haber who was noted for his ambiguous and sometimes scandalous statements.
Tbilisi’s attack on opposition
After a barefaced raid organized by Vano Merabishvili’s officers against Zurab Giguashvili, a relative of Irakli Okruashvili, representatives of the Georgian Party published an address condemning prosecutions for political motives. Unexpectedly this document became a platform to bring together various opposition forces. The address of the Georgian party was supported by other 14 oppositional movements and NGOs. GeorgiaTimes correspondent asks Irakli Menagarishvili, director of the Center for Strategic Studies, if these accusations of political terror are true to fact.2011-07-07 20:09
