Saakashvili has no clothes!
Saakashvili is a naked lying emperor. That’s what head of the Georgian Republicans David Usupashvili stated in response to the president’s attempt of shifting responsibility for a failed and ill-considered decision onto the opposition. The Georgian president simply cannot help lying even if he is easily caught by the hand. At the same time, he does not want to believe that he can be deceived: Saakashvili still thinks that someone is really interested in Georgia outside the country and takes the ritual compliments of the coming guests at their face value.
A pipeline leading Georgia to nowhere
Tbilisi is eager to obtain some pipeline but is permanently unlucky – just as in the rest of things. The widely promoted Nabucco has died without being born, AGRI’s prospect is so far rather vague and the construction of White Stream was initially a fancy, for Ukraine has got no money even to improve its own gas transportation system, not to mention participating in any international project. However, the Georgian government decided that if one wants something very much, all the above mentioned problems can be settled. The Oil and Gas Corporation of Georgia (OGCG) announced a tender for buying construction materials to build the Georgian section of the East-West gas pipeline.
The decline of Georgian democracy
Georgian human rights organizations presented a report on the state of human rights in their country. Their conclusions are not at all reassuring. Democracy has failed to “naturalize” in Sakartvelo and now it is to be replaced by not an authoritarian but a totalitarian regime with all the relevant consequences. People are dying in prisons and even potential enemies of the current government are prosecuted in advance. The sad situation was described to the journalists and diplomats by human right defenders.
Minister Chigoeva seeks refuge
Maya Chigoeva-Tsaboshvili seeks political asylum in Canada. She arrived at this decision upon “a series of disappointments and failures of hope” that she has been living through lately. She is former “minister of foreign affairs” of the alternative pro-Georgian government of South Ossetia. But the “diplomat” is lucky complaining only of disappointments. Most of her colleagues were less lucky: some of them are in prison, others are on the run and some are scared of possible revenge.
