Opposition failing to catch Saakashvili in a restaurant. Again2009-04-27 20:52
The opposition continues their pursuit of President Mikheil Saakashvili. Last night there was an attempt to catch him in Meydan restaurant but as it turned out the president wasn't there.
Bidzina Gudzhabidze of the Conservative Party came to the restaurant to find Rusudan Kervalishvili and Irakli Kavtaradze representing the dominant party there. He states Saakashvili really was in the restaurant but after he was informed of the "pursuers" he fled via the back door. Pursuit of Saakashvili was launched last week with the opposition stating they would follow him everywhere and not allow him to "have a good time" when the country is in mid crisis and the people are urging him to step down.
On Sunday the Georgian media were actively reporting on Saakashvili's presence at the energy summit in Sofia, then his flight to Turkey and his stay in a fashionable hotel in Bodrum resort. This information was disseminated by a number of Turkish agencies to which the references were made. Singer Georgy Gachechiladze hosting Camera № 5 Show on Maestro TV even phoned the Bodrum hotel where Saakashvili was staying according to the news, and the hotel administrator confirmed this information.
"Will you please give Georgy Gachechiladze's regards to him and say I will call back tomorrow", - the singer said on the phone.
Contrary to this information in the evening Mikheil Saakashvili arrived in Tbilisi to see the location where the tragedy struck yesterday morning - the five-floor building owned by Rustavi-2 TV Company collapsed.
In the evening he planned to see the Spanish parliamentarians in the President's Chancellery but instead of this Mikheil Saakashvili had a business dinner with the Spanish guests. According to Rustavi-2 TV after dinner one of the Spanish deputies stated that Georgia was a democratic country with everyone having the right to free expression of protest but still the opposition should not have interfered with the business dinner.
The delegation of the Spanish parliament arrived in Tbilisi on a working visit on April 24 and had meetings with the representatives of the government, parliament and parliamentary opposition of Georgia. Spanish deputies saw Irakli Alasania and Nino Burdzhanadze of the non-parliamentary opposition.
