Moscow as a security guarantor for Tskhinval and Sukhum2009-04-29 22:41
On April, 30, Russia is going to sign an agreement for the joint control over the Georgian border with Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Sergey Bagapsh and Eduard Kokoity have already started off for Moscow.
"This is another important step towards strengthening the security of our country and enhancing co-operation with Russia, which is, in fact, the guarantor of peace and stability in the region, - Rosbalt is quoting Sergey Shamba, Head of the Abkhazian MIA. - Signing this document will not only ensure Abkhazia's security but is going to enhance co-operation with Russia in general".
Let us remind you that the agreements for the joint border control and patrolling have been worked out in the context of the Treaty of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance signed between Russia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia last year.
"Moscow is going to witness the signing of one of the most important documents in the legal execution of the Russian-Abkhazian cooperation, which is most urgent at the moment, - Sergey Bagapsh, the president of Abkhazia, pointed out in his interview to IA Apsynpress the day before his departure. - We have an unsuccessful experience of dealing with Georgia, which is unscrupulous in achieving its revanchist purposes. Our task is to ensure security and guarantee non-resumption of hostilities in the region, including the maintenance of stability in the Caucasus. In this aspect, we have reached total awareness of our common tasks and objectives with the Russian Federation".
It is already known that the Russian border guards are going to provide assistance to their Abkhazian colleagues in the unquiet Galski region. "We have to secure our border in order to prevent the disorders and riots in Georgia from penetrating the territory of Abkhazia", - Bagapsh underlined. It is also important to note that the Georgian-Abkhazian border is going to get additional reinforcement before the start of the NATO military exercises Cooperative Longbow 09/Cooperative Lancer 09 that will take place at the Vaziani training field in Georgia. Russia has more than once expressed its negative attitude towards the military manoeuvres of the alliance in the immediate proximity of the young republics; especially that Georgia is facing hard times now. However, the block keeps lobbying the idea of manoeuvres under the ridiculous pretext that the exercises "have been long planned".
