The second meeting of South Ossetia, Georgia, Russia and EU representatives on Incident prevention mechanism scheduled for May 7 did not take place as was stated by RSO President's Representative for post-conflict settlement Boris Chochiev.
Two weeks ago Merab Chigoev, Shota Utiashvili, Sergey Antonov and Hansjörg Haber first met in the Georgian village of Ergneti on the border with South Ossetia. The meeting had a form of fruitful discussion with all parties favoring continuation of the dialogue within Incident prevention mechanism initiative. The next meeting was planned for the beginning of May at the same place. The representatives of South Ossetia, Georgia, Russia and the European Union expected to discuss real measures to normalize the situation in the near-border zone at the second meeting but Tbilisi and Brussels gave Tskhinval a new "surprise".
"The meeting of the working groups planned for today within the framework of incident prevention mechanism was frustrated by the Georgian side and the EU Monitoring mission in Georgia - Res IA quotes Boris Chochiev. - They had invented pretexts for the meeting to be held in the territory of Georgia in the town of Gori, then in the village of Tirdznisi, not adjacent to South Ossetia. This is contrary to the agreements between Russian and French presidents Medvedev and Sarkozy, in particular this is a violation of the clause on deployment of international mechanisms in the territory of Georgia adjacent to South Ossetia". According to Chochiev earlier the Ossetian side reminded of that in its official letter to the head of the EU mission in Georgia Hansjörg Haber. Tskhinval got a reply that the meeting would not take place and was postponed.
"Unfortunately it means the international organizations supporting Georgia - the EU, OSCE, UN and the United States keep politicizing these issues, - Chochiev continues. - Today they suggest Tirdznisi, tomorrow Karaleti, then Gori and in a month's time - Tbilisi. Surely we'll not accept that". Boris Chochiev also mentioned that South Ossetia had proposed to the EU representatives to set aside a modest amount for construction of a block house for meetings in Ergneti "out of that huge financial aid Georgia receives from the USA and the European Union who armed Georgia and blessed its aggression in August 2008". "Other localities are no good to us as we strictly follow the Medvedev-Sarkozy plan", - he summed up.
