Saakashvili has got “American attorneys”2009-05-12 16:18
The meeting between the Georgian oppositionists and President Saakashvili, which has been longed-for in Georgia, turned out to be another disappointment for the protest movement, at the same time bringing Mikhail Nikolaevitch a few more score points.
"Despite the content of the conversation, today is the victory of democracy in the country. We have agreed upon the fact that this is a step forward, and the dialogue should be continued. Though I am under no illusion that we will manage to agree upon all the issues", - Saakashvili announced in the traditional dogmatic manner of his in a TV appeal to the public after the meeting.
However, the opposition expressed quite a reverse opinion on the event, which essence is that the mountain labored and brought forth a mouse. "The president thinks that everything is going well in the country but we have another viewpoint on the matter", - that was the opinion of one of the opposition leaders Levan Gachechiladze.
"After today's meeting I believe all chances to set up a dialogue have been exhausted, so we should change power in an amicable way as soon as possible", - leader of Alliance for Georgia Irakli Alasania thinks. The former Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, leader of the Democratic Movement - United Georgia party Nino Burjanadze, who did not take part in the meeting with the president, holds by the same opinion. "The opposition is not going to wait until Saakashvili resigns in 2013, - she declared. - We will call on the whole Georgia to protect the people's interests".
"Saakashvili has got one more chance to resign, for the Georgians are capable of forgiving", - RIA Novosti is quoting Burjanadze.
In his speech at the rally near the Georgian parliament, one of the leaders of the National forum Gubaz Sanikidze declared that the oppositionists are going to announce a national act of disobedience to authority. According to him, the protest demonstrations in Tbilisi will be joined by other Georgian cities, Batumi in the first place. He informed that in the nearest time a large part of the oppositional leaders will go to the regions, adding that on Tuesday, the protesters will start blocking the roads across the country. Nino Burjanadze also supported the tactics of expanding the protest actions to the whole territory of Georgia.
"We should pass on to dynamic actions. All these authorities need to be given a shake. We are going to take very important steps in the nearest days; we will go round the whole Georgia and gain a lot of supporters both in the country and outside", - the former associate of Mikhail Nikolaevitch says.
