Maestro is going to solve the mystery of murder in spite of the explosion

2009-05-26 17:20

2835.jpegLast night there was a grenade explosion at the building of Maestro private TV company representing the voice of the opposition. Mikhail Saakashvili's opponents declared that the act of terrorism was aimed at intimidating the free press. The authorities keep silent, thus giving liberty to develop any versions of the event.

At 3 a.m., someone threw a grenade at the Maestro TV-channel building; it was just several minutes before the end of the "Ward No.5" TV program telling of Mikhail Saakashvili's police regime horrors. The grenade exploded at the building entrance; the explosion damaged the iron door and the walls, shattered the panes and caused an equipment breakdown.

Fortunately, neither the guests of the program, nor the journalists were injured. "Several staff members were in the building when they heard a bulb shatter, and then the grenade exploded, smoke permeated the building, and there was a ten-minute panic", - Baya Gadabadze, the Ward No.5 producer, told the Georgian media.

Maestro staff immediately called the police patrol; however, the policemen were surpassed by the People's defender representatives and the oppositional politicians.

The journalists and the TV-company management declared that the incident might be related to a motion picture about the murderers of Sandro Girgvliani that was to be broadcasted that night during a program called The Profession of a Journalist. Let us remind you that several MIA officers found themselves in the dock with regard to the bank officer's murder case. Human rights defenders and the killed person's relatives have named high-ranking officers of the administration to be the contractors.  According to Maestro Chief Information Officer Natia Mikiashvili, the motion picture about Girgvliani was presented by a person, who immediately left Georgia, for his life would be put at stake if the picture were broadcasted. Mikiashvili assured that the motion picture would be definitely aired at 21:00.

Deputy People's defender of Georgia Giorgi Chkheidze, on arriving at the place of explosion, demanded an official investigation of the incident. "Unfortunately, any explosion contributes to the feeling of unsteadiness in the country, and it is still more alarming that the explosion has taken place in an independent TV-company", - GHN is quoting Chkheidze.

"It was an act of terrorism", - leader of the United Opposition Levan Gachechiladze comments the incident categorically.
