Raul Khadzhimba’s special role

2009-05-29 17:56

"We suspect that Moscow is pressing upon him in order to avoid exacerbating the domestic situation", - Roin Agrba, editor in chief of the EDA (Ecomonic Development Party) web-site has stated to Commersant.

Chairman of the EDA party Beslan Butba has recently declared that he might nominate for the presidency in the presidential election. It means Khadzhimba is going to compete with him for those voters that are unsatisfied with Bagapsh's policy.

It will be easier for the current president to win the election race should the opposition split up. In this case, the role of Raul Jumkovitch will also come down to providing the majority of votes for Bagapsh. And if the Kremlin is indeed satisfied with the candidacy of Sergey Vasylyevitch, who has recently celebrated his anniversary in Moscow, then Khadzhimba's intention to run in the election does not contradict the plans of the country patronizing Abkhazia.

The experts believe Bagapsh's chances of prolonging his presidential term to be rather promising, for he has managed to obtain the recognition of independence for his country. "Bagapsh will evidently win this election, - Inal Khashig, the political expert and the editor in chief of Chegemskaya Pravda has told Commersant. - Still, the following five years are going to be tough for him because the public discontent with his pro-Moscow policy is rising".

"As soon as Sergey Bagapsh announces his decision and his team, the political balance will become evident, as well as the main players", - Alexander Krylov, leading researcher of Institute of International Economics and Foreign Relations of the RAS commented upon the situation in his interview to Rosbalt. He thinks that Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Shamba and Vice President Raul Khadzhimba might be treated as "major players" unlike Butba.

Deputy Director of the Caucasian Investigations Center at Moscow State University of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Zakharov also regards Beslan Tickovitch to be a poor politician and economist, so far as criticizing Bagapsh for his desire to cooperate with a Russian businessman does not seem to be reasonable. Who else can be expected to be the investors, with Abkhazia being recognized only by two countries of the world? They will not come from Nicaragua.
