The Georgian government promises to provide the funds

2009-06-10 13:57

Whatever the situation may be, on reporting successful budget improvement Baindurashvili gave an interview to the Bloomberg agency complaining about the rate of economical reduction attributed to the oppositional protest actions. "I am openly accusing the street policy", - he said, having underlined once again that the street confrontation has undermined the investors' trust. Moreover, according to Baindurashvili, the cages on Rustaveli Avenue do not let the parliament pass the budget changes as long as it cannot hold sittings in its own building.

By the way, yesterday, as soon as the budget improvement was reported, the oppositionists cleared the square in front of the legislative body of their two-month presence. Apparently, from the viewpoint of protesters, cutting the official's expenses is worth bringing the lawmakers back to where they should be.

Besides the changes in the budget, a package of anti-crisis measures is being prepared by the Board that has been specially formed to manage economical problems. Today, its representatives met with Kakha Baindurashvili; tomorrow they are going to consult Nika Gilauri. According to GHN, Chairman of the Board Gia Tortladze is trying to involve the uncompromising opposition in discussing the economical problems but yet in vain.

While the government is concentrated upon creating a positive atmosphere in the country, the opposition keeps asserting that Georgia is sinking right to the bottom of the economical crisis. The Labourites announce the planned retention of wages to post-office staff, teachers and other on-budget employees and the experts are anticipating another wave of troubles in credit activities and in the real sector of economics this autumn.

To spite these pessimistic forecasts, the government press-service is making profuse promises: by autumn, people will surely witness the results of the foreign assistance, the statement says. According to GHN, Nika Gilauri has specially pointed out that there will be no problems with pension and on-budget wages payment.

Thus, the government claims to have found a way out of the economical dead end, though with the foreign help. Ultimately, it is not for nothing that the Georgian tax payers support their government. As to the outcome of the situation, time will show.
