Tskhinval is making its own conditions to the West2009-06-17 22:19
Participation of the South-Ossetian delegation in Genevan negotiations is rather doubtful. This was reported on June, 16 by the President's Authorized Representative on Post-Conflict Settlement Boris Chochiev (see photo) after the meeting with the European Union, UN and OSCE representatives. The official Tskhinval does not recommend the international organizations to delay the settlement of the humanitarian issues in the region.
"There are many points and conditions that might force South Ossetia to withdraw from participating in the sixth round scheduled for the 1st of July, - ITAR-TASS is quoting Boris Chochiev. - Georgia has not yet presented any information on the three nationals of South Ossetia kidnapped from the territory of the republic, one of them being under age. This has already become the reason of disrupting the incident prevention meetings which are also held in the context of Genevan discussions".
As is known, the third meeting in the context of the incident prevention mechanism scheduled for July, 11 never took place. Tskhinval informed EU and OSCE in advance that negotiations with the Georgian party would be possible only if Tbilisi provided information on the kidnapped Ossetians. However, Georgia simply ignored the request. The EU representatives are working instead of the Georgians, RIA Novosti is quoting Boris Chochiev.
The Ossetian ambassador gave rather dry comments upon the absurd situation with the mechanism implementation. "Georgia is hiding behind EU, OSCE, UN, - he pointed out. - Those organizations are settling the problems for Tbilisi. Then, why is the Georgian party represented in the mechanisms if it is incapable to do anything on its own?" This rhetoric question did not awake any echo in the minds of the European experts. The EU Special Representative Pierre Morel and his associates went to the capital of South Ossetia, apparently counting upon the silent agreement of the republic as to the question of participation in Genevan discussions. However, this time Tskhinval took up a principal position. Well-grounded demands were made to the negotiations co-chairmen. Otherwise, what is the use of these meetings in Switzerland?
