New anti-Russian hysteria. Who needs it?

2009-06-25 18:19

3167.jpegVladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky was born in Georgia, in Bagdadi village. He loved Georgia and wrote with admiration: "I know: Edens and heaven are foolery! But if songs were sung about them/ it must have been Georgia - a land of joy - the poets implied". He also wrote: "If stars are lit up, it means somebody needs it?" We will discuss somebody-needs-it issue here.

For some reason Mr. Saakashvili sees a new war with Russia looming in the near future. He finds any opportunity to repeat the war is on the threshold of Georgia. Sometimes he even comes across sympathizing interlocutors like Phillip Pank of The Times (Great Britain).

In his recent interview with the Englishman Mikheil Saakashvili told that last year Russia had allegedly unleashed the war with Georgia in order to get hold of oil pipelines. "We didn't attack Russia. We didn't go there and bomb Moscow,", - Mikheil Nikolozovich reasons. Here he doesn't mention it was the Georgian army who launched GRAD rockets on Tskhinval residents and barracks of Russian peacekeepers on the night of August 7 and then started a mopping-up operation in the city.

According to Saakashvili Putin wanted to invade the whole of Georgia for it was a geopolitical rivalry with the West. The question is why the Russian army didn't accomplish it. Why didn't it seize all Georgia and its oil pipelines?

The lesson the Kremlin learned from the August events in Georgia is invalidity and weakness of Europe and the USA, - the Times concludes. The newspaper is especially concerned over Kavkaz exercises to start on Monday. "Georgia asserts that part of these forces will join thousands of troops stationed in two separatist regions since last summer", - the article goes quoting the statement of Speaker of Georgian parliament David Bakradze: "This scheme is exactly the same as it was last year: Russians are increasing their military presence, Russians are conducting large-scale military exercises, directly threatening Georgia, and they are making all the time statements that Georgians are concentrating forces and Georgians are beginning to start the war and we have to respond".

"There is confidence in the EU that Russia, which is keen to build bridges with the US Administration will hold back but at the same time the EU admits: personal power plays between Moscow and Tbilisi can produce a combustible mixture", - the newspaper sums up. Though the author of the article doesn't believe in a new war in the Caucasus all things are possible, he thinks.
