Saakashvili’s “wall” had no success with the UN General Assembly
2009-09-25 14:36Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has developed a "wall mania". First, he communicated this disease to the European retired politicians and intellectuals and then made an attempt to disseminate the virus cultured in the Avlabar residence among the participants of the UN General Assembly held in New York.
In his speech delivered on Thursday at the UN General Assembly, President of Georgia again subjected Russia to fierce criticism, having accused it of intention to build another Berlin Wall in the territory of Georgia.
It should also be noted that the speech of the Georgian president did not contain any definite references to Russia. Instead, Mikhail Saakashvili spoke about "external powers" and "them".
Again Saakashvili drew a parallel between the Berlin Wall and the loss of the Georgian territorial integrity, having promised that Abkhazia would some day become part of his country.
"In fact, the wall cutting off the fifth part of our territory is a wall that divides Europe, for it establishes new boundaries of control and fear, artificial separating lines inside the internationally recognized border of a European state", - that was the way Saakashvili characterized the border of the self-proclaimed Abkhazia.
"Since the times of Jason and Argonauts, Abkhazia has been the most valuable and full-blooded part of our way through the history", - the Georgian leader said, obviously trying to claim the crown of legendary Mitridat (the ruler of Pont). The Abkhazian leaders could just as well "privatize" the antique history but they would not.
"With time, Abkhazia will resume its original face and again become the most attractive part of Georgia", - Saakashvili stated from the UN General Assembly rostrum. However, he did not specify before the General Assembly participants in what way Abkhazia will be returned to Georgia. Before that, during the meeting with the Georgian expatriate community in New York he stated that he does not regret the last year military and political conflict, having promised to retrieve what they (Russia) have temporarily seized".
"I do not regret a bit that I showed resistance; neither or our forced emigrants regrets it, - he said to the Georgian expatriate community. - There is not a single normal country - the only ally Putin managed to find in the world is Hugo Chavez, and God let Putin have Hugo Chavez forever".
