Is Georgia’s future defined by Zviadists?2009-10-06 08:56
Last weekend, party For Fair Georgia held a meeting. Its leader, former Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli again spoke for resuming a dialogue with Russia, as well as for starting a dialogue with the Abkhazians and Ossetians. The public was shocked by the appearance of Loti Kobalia, one of the founders of the first president Zviad Gamsakhurdia's National Guard, among the members of the party.
The meeting of the For Fair Georgia party is an ordinary event in the context of political lull. The former prime minister already announced the basic principles of his party, having repeated them once again at the meeting.
According to informational agencies, Zurab Nogaideli again spoke for resuming a dialogue with Russia, for he considers it to be the only chance to restore the country's territorial integrity.
Let us remind you that in September Nogaideli said that "definite statements as to mending relationship with Russia will be disclosed in the nearest future". It turns out that he did not mean the party meeting.
The question of "How should one start restoring diplomatic relationship with Russia?" is still rhetoric in Georgia.
Neither are there any innovations in the program of the party aimed at resuming territorial integrity. Nogaideli disclosed his proposals in January.
The conflict settlement model created by Movement for Fair Georgia went as follows: "we should bring back the refugees, not the people".
During the recent meeting, leader of the party stated: "We should give up the idea of war once and forever and select the way of peaceful negotiations".
He also said that Georgia has marred relationship with practically all of its neighbors. How can one talk about any regional safety without resuming these contacts?
According to Nogaideli, president of Georgia does nothing to restore the territorial integrity of the country, and early elections are the only way out of the deadlock.
It should also be noted that the idea of early elections is supported by all of the oppositional parties of Georgia. The only thing is that no one seems to know the answer to the question of how it can be possibly realized.
According to the Georgian experts, for the moment, the protest zeal of the public has come to zero. Even the results of Tagliavini's report confirming that the first shot in August 2008 was made by Georgia did not change the domestic situation in the country.
