Shelterless walkers from Tskhinval2009-10-09 18:03
The people of South Ossetia do not want to spend another winter in trailers and tents because the authorities seem to be in no haste to provide them with shelter. This was stated today by the republican public authorities at the press-conference held in the Russian capital. Tskhinval believes this panic to be sponsored by the president's opponents and organizes its own actions in support of Eduard Kokoity.
The authorities of South Ossetia do not want to provide shelter to those who lost it during the Georgian aggression last August, although they are able to do it. This was stated today by the people of Tskhinval at the press-conference in Moscow.
According to public activist Inara Gabaraeva, the republican government asserts that Russia delays money transfers, which is why the construction and restoration goes at a snail's pace.
The people of Tskhinval are also indignant at the fact that the Ossetian officials promise them small houses of 80 sq. meters each instead of the earlier stated buildings with the area of 125 sq. meters.
"We never saw any documents regulating the alteration of the construction standards. That is why we applied to Ministry of Regional Development and Federal Center of Education", - IA Regnum is citing attorney Andrey Stolbunov.
According to one of the press-conference participants Grigoriy Dzasokhov, the authorities conceal the way they are going to use extra money that has been received from Moscow for the construction of large buildings. He says that out of 800 houses that must replace the burnt ones, only 108 buildings are under construction.
"Perhaps, they will manage to erect certain amount of buildings by December but those will be just house cases covered with roofs, without communications, heating system and cellars", - Inara Gabaraeva stated.
However, the almost completed Moscow residential district constructed on the initiative of the Mayor of the Russian capital Yuri Luzhkov remains uninhabited.
Gabaraeva hopes that Moscow will pay attention to all these problems. She is waiting for the answers to official questions, which were addressed to the Russian authorities by the activists about a month ago.
At the end of last week, the Ossetians that were left without any shelter organized a meeting in Tskhinval.
The action was associated with the visit of the Russian Ministry of Regional Development Inter-departmental Committee (IDC). Committee Chairman Roman Panov noticed positive changes in the reconstruction works.
