Georgians renounce Saakashvili2009-10-15 14:27
Levan Gachechiladze whose brother - singer Utsnobi - was raving during spring and summer protest actions came forward with the initiative for the people to "dissociate themselves from the president". Before that a meeting between opposition leaders on the methods to realize this slogan was held. Alas, there were no new proposals. Besides the idea itself is a rip-off of Georgy Andriadze's proposal.
A couple of weeks ago the idea to separate the wheat of Georgian dignity from the chaff of crimes of the president was suggested by NGO National Christian Movement of Georgia leader Georgy Andriadze. He stated that "like president Saakashvili people of Georgia will be the target of Tagliavini mission's criticism".
According to him the situation was similar in ex Yugoslavia when the international committee of inquiry accused not only President Slobodan Milošević of crimes but the whole Serbian nation that was defending the country's territorial integrity.
"There is a risk that Tagliavini mission will declare both Saakashvili and the Georgians that support the country's territorial integrity as aggressors and criminals", - he said. "Apparently there's no way escaping this criticism so people of Georgia must dissociate themselves from Saakashvili", - the public activist concluded.
His speculations fell on fertile ground. For already half a year the Georgian opposition has been trying fruitlessly to get rid of the president who defamed the country and broke it to pieces. Now that Europe is sure that the attack on Tskhinval was unjustified due to the experts of the international commission, the image of Mikheil Saakashvili as the Georgian leader has become still more discreditable.
And the opposition that was too quiet has cheered up. At first Democratic Movement - United Georgia leader Nino Burdzhanadze called on her colleagues to make another attempt to get united and go against the president together. But the proposal was as old as the hills.
Then Defend Georgia movement leader Levan Gachechiladze made use of Andriadze's prompt and invited all opposition to Radisson SAS Iveria hotel.
In the press release of yesterday's event it was stated that Georgia starts "the campaign for dissociation from Mikheil Saakashvili". "Saakashvili and his regime must be condemned once and for all", - the organizers stated calling on the people of the country to support the action.
"Out of the conclusions by "Tagliavini's commission" it became clear that Georgia's statehood is facing danger. The world must realize that Saakashvili and his team are not Georgia", - the address runs.
