South Ossetia to suppress the broadcasting of Radio Liberty 2009-11-02 15:29

According to Georgi Kabisov, the chairman of the State Committee for Information, Connection and Mass Communication, the broadcasting of Radio Liberty/Radio Free Europe is illegal and will be suppressed by the authorities - Res.

Kabisov added the authority structures received no requests for broadcasting from the radio station managers. "The statements of the Georgian editorial office claiming they don't need any permissions for broadcasting, are legally not grounded".

He highlighted there exist widely recognized rules for mass media, and if Radio Liberty doesn't want to follow them, it will be recognized as informational provocation.

"In case the management of the station finally makes decision to broadcast, we will have to impede it with technical means", Kabisov said.

Today the pilot 1-hour program will be aired, then RL/RFE for Abkhazia and South Ossetia will issue information blocks, said David Kakabadze, the head of the Georgian editorial office.

The radio station will broadcast only in the regions adjacent to Georgia - Gali and Leninogori.
