Saving Imedi

2009-11-03 10:00 It was Diana Trapaidze's and Tea Sichinava's protest against biased presentation of the events in the country.

But Shalva Ramishvili, ex founder and owner of 202 TV company once condemned on suspicion for money extortion from Koba Bekauri, an ex deputy, was invited to host Time for Truth entertainment show that had been on Imedi since October.

Only two TV channels remain voices of the opposition - Kavkasia and Maestro. But their broadcasting zone is limited to the capital.

In September Why? youth movement that earlier called for return of Mtatskminda park to Patarkatsishvili family declared a new action - for the return of Imedi to its legal owners. But the leaflet distribution had no effect.

It looks more like there's nobody to save the freest and most unbiased TV company...

From time to time the West condemns Georgia for manipulating the media. In June the Journalist Protection Committee stated that "state channels - Rustavi 2, Mze and Imedi TV - actually don't criticize the Saakashvili government".

However Georgia's rating in Reporters without Borders latest report unexpectedly went up. Local journalists were surprised at this evaluation explaining that this year, unlike last year, there was no war in Georgia and reporters were not dying.
