NATO member countries, Israel and Ukraine still supply Georgia with armaments and military equipment, said Lieutenant General Alexander Shlykhturov, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate [aka GRU] of the Chief Staff - ITAR TASS.
"According to the data we have, Georgia both before events of August 2008 and now receives military aid from NATO member countries, Israel and Ukraine," he said. He explained that NAYO member countries, and in the first line East European states, supply guns and small munitions. "The USA train the personnel of Georgian army in NATO tactics, Israel supplies Georgia with unmanned aircrafts, Ukraine with heavy machinery, in particular, tanks and missile defense means," GRU head said.
Ukraine's arms supplies to Georgia are conducted not directly from the state, but not without the awareness and patronage of the highest Ukrainian leaders.
Not so long ago Tsipi Livni, the ex-Foreign Minister of Israel said that the government needed to consider Russia's interests when making decision about arms supplies for Georgia. The analysis of the August 2008 events lead to suspension of arms supplies for Georgia, Livni highlighted.
According to Petr Poroshenko, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, highlighted that Ukraine supplies no weapons to Georgia and hadn't participated in the conflict of August 2008.
At the same time Valeriy Konolayuk, the Ukrainian MP and the head of the ad hoc commission for investigation of Ukrainian weapons supplies to Georgia, [established after the conflict] says the country still supplies armaments and military machinery to Georgia.
