No farewell to arms

2009-11-05 17:11 Can this be called a policy of friendship?" - the high-ranking official stated without naming himself for good reason.

The concerns of Russian militaries can be understood. They are always compelled to "keep their gunpowder dry". "The situation with Georgia remains tense since current authorities of Georgia refuse to recognize Abkhazia's and South Ossetia's sovereignty and make various attempts at returning these countries, now independent, to the jurisdiction of Georgia", - GRU chief said.

This situation has been there for a bit more than a year already. The question is whether the Georgian army - albeit rearmed by neo-NATO members, the Ukrainian "fellow sponsor" and Israeli "suppliers of death" - is capable of any successful military operation against two new independent states interconnected by treaties on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with the Russian Federation. These documents stipulate joint counteraction to external aggression and consequently if Saakashvili is brave enough for this crazy adventure he will have to declare war on Russia this time.

"The Georgian leadership is really unpredictable but not that much as to start new hostilities in South Ossetia and Abkhazia", Anatoly Tsiganok, head of Center for Military Forecast believes adding that the provocations on the part of Georgia will continue as before.

The loud statement by new GRU chief Alexander Shlyakhturov made on the Military Intelligence Officer day is likely to arouse political scandals in Kiev, Tel Aviv and some Eastern European capitals. As for Tbilisi - Avlabari's reaction can be predicted. Saakashvili will again accuse Moscow of preparation for a large-scale aggression against "the outpost of democracy" in Transcaucasia. It's time the West be reminded that "Georgian loyalty" must be paid for. All the more so that the arms for the Georgian army cost money - big money. And even Mikheil Nikolayevich's best friends and his Kiev "fellow sponsor" will not supply them for free.
