The possibility of spread of H1N1 virus was discussed at today's sitting of Anti-Crisis Council in the Georgian Parliament.
MPs listened to the report of the Alexander Kvitashvili, the Minister of Labour, Health Care and Social Protection, and Paata Imnadze, the head of the Center for Disease Control.
Kvitashvili mentioned that 36 cases of the swine flu have been registered; these are mostly people who arrived from the neighboring states: the UK, Turkey, Spain, Sweden, Malaysia. According to the Minister, there's no need to close borders.
Intensive monitoring is being conducted at all border checkpoints, passengers are provided with brochures describing symptoms of the disease to let them turn for medical aid in time.
Kvitashvili also mentioned that the agitation in Ukraine is connected with the work of mass media, and the role of media in informing the population is very important. According to the Minister, the outbreak of the swine flu coincided with regular flu, and the situation isn't as dangerous as the journalists described it.
He stated there are no grounds for panic, but, nevertheless, the country must be ready for possible epidemic and struggle with it.
Paata Imnadze said the country has stock of medicines and individual protection means. He said the country has over 100 000 pills of tamiflu, 6 000 packets of tamiflu powder, enough masks and other means pf protection.
Swine flu mortality amounts 0.004 per cent, usual flu - 7-8 per cent.
