Role of Victim for Aggressor2009-11-13 22:42
The Geneva discussion participants will go on hanging about until the USA, the European Union and the NATO reconsiders their erroneous position consisting in the statement that nothing happened in August'2008... Until Tbilisi stops concealing itself under the cover of a victim, encouraged by its protectors.
The eighth round of discussions aimed at ensuring security and stability in Transcaucasia that took place in Geneva excited strong irritation of Georgian diplomats starting from its very beginning. First of all, due to the fact that it featured the delegations of the Abkhazian and South Ossetian Republics as fully legitimate participants.
The Chairman of the Committee for International Affairs of the Russian State Duma Konstantin Kosachev thinks that the first and main thing he has managed to achieve so far is the fact that neither South Ossetia nor Abkhazia are discriminated during these negotiations. «They have a status of equivalent and equipollent participants of the dialog», stressed Kosachev.
It is this very circumstance that stirred the wrath of the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to his comment to the article of the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin «Transcaucasia in the Geneva Format» published in the «Izvestia» newspaper of 10 November 2009, Georgian diplomats are nearly tearing their shirts of anger. With a genuine pain in their voices they screamed that «in the very first paragraph of his article Mr. Karasin, as usual, is trying to impose the so-called «new reality» that Russia is trying to create and legalize upon occupying the inalienable parts of Georgia and upon the ethnical cleansing performed in these regions».
As regards the Geneva format itself, Tbilisi says it was created after the Russian and Georgian war as a means of peaceful conflict resolution.
The Geneva negotiations headed by the European Union features representatives of Georgia, Russian Federation and the USA. Russia is «the occupant» and Georgia is «the victim». According to Georgia. And Tbilisi was initially satisfied with this format. The problem is that the format has changed. Now, to the indignation of the diplomatic emissaries of Mr. Saakashvili, apart from the co-chairmen and consultation participants, «the workgroups of the Geneva negotiations feature the representatives of the Abkhazia and Tskhinvali's puppet regimes, as well as the head of the temporary administration of the ex-Autonomous Area of South Ossetia and the head of the government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia».
