Nani Bregvadze Became an «Incorrect» Georgian2009-11-24 13:07
A new political scandal flared up in the artistic circles of Georgia. Now Georgians have patriotic artists and "collaborationist" artists who dared perform in the «occupant country» and for the political leaders of the «occupants».Usually Georgian artists who dare give their performances on the Russian stage are immediately put on the list of «enemies of Georgia», but Nani Bregvadze is too notable on the world's stage to "anathemize" her name so easily.
Though when Nani Bregvadze, People's Artist of the USSR, People's Artist of Georgia, winner of the State Award of Georgia in the honour of Shota Rustaveli, professor, honorary citizen of the cities of Tbilisi and Benalmadena (Spain), ventured to sing a couple of sentimental songs at the eightieth anniversary of another legendary citizen of Tbilisi Evgeny Primakov, the «non-governmental» (Georgian laws forbid governmental press in Georgia) but quite pro-presidential TV companies made a big deal about it.
All Georgian TV companies and some experts who are most close to Mikhail Nikolaevich made snide remarks about the «immorality» of Bregvadze.
«Georgians made a big mistake. They had to kneel in front of Putin and sing «Mravalzhamier» (Wishes for long life!). It cannot be that a neighbour bursts into your house, violates your family, lies on your bed, and then you sing to him. I do not understand it...» - sneered the political scientist Alexander Rondeli.
Now Georgia has «correct» singers, such Buba Kikabidze, who, forgetting about all of his famous cinema roles in the films of an «incorrect Georgian» Giya Danelia, became a reckless Russophobe. And there are most «incorrect» vocalists, such as the eminent opera singer Paata Burchuladze whose name was panned by all the world and his wife just for his participation in a charity concert in the Russian capital. Burchuladze was immediately declared an «enemy of Georgia».
So far God has spared such labels to. Fortunately, she is not accused of treachery of national interests. So far Nani Georgievna, as other Georgians invited to the celebration of Primakov's birthday were fitted with several unflattering epithets, the softest of them being «naive».
The singer herself gave an interview nearly to all the Georgian TV companies but none of them sent it on air in full. And some editing miracles led to the celebrated singer almost apologizing for rendering the famous song "Tbiliso" in Moscow.
