Cinema Lampooners Wanted Urgently!2009-11-26 22:56
The Georgian top circles are seized with cinema mania. They have made a stab at a whole TV series describing the story of the «Russian occupation» of neighbouring territories. Obviously, the host of the Avlabar residence considered insufficient the creation of another Hollywood blockbuster in which the American director Renny Harlin creates his own version of the criminal venture in South Ossetia unleashed by Mikhail Saakashvili.
The film with the scratch title «Georgia» is aimed at showing the drama of the Georgian president who together with the characters of the future series is suffering the tragedy of a moral choice. Though, if the main characters, an American journalist and his operator who found himself in the epicentre of the war has to solve the issues of morality and responsibility to observe the rules of journalists' objectivity, the Georgian president interpreted by the Hollywood star Andy Garcia has to give his mind to a mass murder of peaceful Tskhinvali citizens. And he does it, giving an order about the night incursion into South Ossetia.
These memories are still green in the mind of Tbilisi inhabitants: they tried to recreate the atmosphere of the bygone unanimity of the Georgian capital people at the end of last year. Having engaged thousands of extras, in October Harlin shoot the episode repeating the real events of August'2008, when on Prospekt Rustaveli dozens of thousands of people gathered for a meeting to demonstrate the unity of the nation against the background of the war with Russia.
Andy Garcia made an inflammatory speech to the atmosphere players and the witty Tbilisi men cried: «Viva our favourite president Andy Garcia!». They begged the Hollywood star to rule in Georgia, and Mikhail Nikolaevich was a bit discouraged by such a turn of events that, of course, was not mentioned by the Georgian mass media serving the current regime.
After that Mr. Saakashvili abandoned the desire to create another blockbuster about him goodself and turned towards documentaries. All of us know that today's documentary cinema can juggle with real facts better than any «Hollywood myths». For this purpose the Georgian president displayed much kindness to the famous Russian director Andrey Nekrasov who, obviously not disinterested, worked in Georgia shooting a film on last year's war. The latest work of Nekrasov «Rebellion. Litvinenko File» was shown at the International Cinema Festival of Cannes and then at other cinema forums outside Russia.
