Saakashvili’s Rival by Russophobia2009-11-27 22:52
The Georgian president has had some new companions who declare to be more violent Russophobes than Mr. Saakashvili and all of his agitation and propaganda staff. Nikoloz Laliashvili, Deputy Chairman of the Opposition (!) Fraction of Christian Democrats, represented his party proposing to formalize the anti-Russian line of the Georgian external politics in the Constitution.
During a briefing after a session of the Georgian Parliament he said that the Christian Democratic Movement (CDM) promotes the initiative of amending the Constitution to introduce a supplement implying the refusal of Georgia to participate in political, military, economic associations created by the countries not recognizing the territorial integrity of Georgia as of 21 December, 1991.
Nikoloz Laliashvili said that «any action aimed at including Georgia into such alliances will be considered crime against the independence of Georgia and will be punished according to the Criminal code of the country». According to the deputy, the changes initiated by the Christian Democrats will be immediately sent to the state Constitution committee.
Probably, the amendments proposed for urgent acceptance by Christian Democrats must be the last warning both to Georgian artists daring to perform on the Russian stage and to some opposition leaders who, as the leader of the «Movement for Fair Georgia» Zurab Nogaideli, think that without restoring their relations with Russia it is impossible to quit the Georgia vs. Abkhazia and Georgia vs. Ossetia conflicts.
Now, if these amendments to the Georgian Constitution proposed by Christian Democrats are accepted, it results that, pursuant to them, practically all contacts with Russia will punished with a prison sentence.
Such paranoid sayings of the «pocket oppositionist» are obviously caused by the fears that in a near future Abkhazia and South Ossetia will be recognized, if not «de jure» then «de facto» by some other states that, as Turkey, has had commercial relations with Abkhazia for several years on a non-public level. Mr. Laliashvili could be frightened by Russia's communication on its intention to purchase the "Mistral" helicopter carrier from France.
At a special briefing Nikoloz Laliashvili said that the purchase of this ship evidences Russia's aggressive plans against Georgia in the Black Sea up to «offensive operations» and «landing of troops in the Georgian territory».
