In the recent time US movie makers have been pathologically interested in last year's August events in the Caucasus. There has already been information on Hollywood film director Renny Harlin's blockbuster "Georgia" (working title) that was filmed this autumn in Tbilisi.
Andy Garcia and Val Kilmer are starring in this film. Now the press reports on Robert Redford, another US movie industry luminary, the founder of Sundance film festival. This prestigious movie forum is positioned as a show of primarily US (USA is number one!) and other world's independent motion pictures.
The world's documentary film program includes Russian Lessons movie, the joint production of Georgia, Germany and Norway. As it was already reported the film directed by Andrey Nekrasov and his now deceased wife Olga Konskaya featuring the August events was initially meant for a political scandal. Earlier the movie couple had made a number of equally scandalous documentaries - all of them russophobic - like purely pretentious and biased films on the second war in Chechnya, explosions of apartment blocks in Moscow and Alexander Litvinenko's murder.
In summer 2009 Andrey Nekrasov was praised by Georgian President Saakashvili - amazed by the film director's "achievement". It was the word Mr. Saakashvili used to characterize the "creative quest" of the political movie libeler. Moreover in October the legislative council in Tbilisi decided to name a city street after Olga Konskaya whose last work was Russian Lessons. It is stated in the note that the movie features the investigation of Russia's activities at the time of the war in Georgia in 2008 and ethnic cleansings in the region after the collapse of the USSR.
The note makers forgot to mention that ethnic cleansings in South Ossetia and Abkhazia started immediately after Zviad Gamsakhurdia, the "legendary rights defender" came to power, continued with Edward Shevarnadze, "the legendary reformer" as president and resulted in the military conflict with Russia at the time of Georgia's current president - Mikheil Saakashvili, the "legendary democrat".
We know Tagliavini's commission final verdict: Georgia is deemed the aggressor in the five-day war in Caucasus. This time Russia didn't leave unpunished the massacre of civilians and death of Russian peacekeepers in Tskhinval the Georgian militaries organized. Moscow was accused of disproportionate use of force.
