Georgian opposition is gathering in Moscow

2010-03-10 23:52

5529.jpegIt seems that the relationship between Moscow and Tbilisi have not yet moved off dead center. The neighboring countries are still lacking the diplomatic relationship. The leaders of the two countries are lavish at using a strong word about each other. Nevertheless, there is a certain tendency, which is rather difficult to define. At least, there has never been such a case in the international practice.

Several months ago the Georgian politicians assured that they were not going to enter into negotiations with the "aggressors and occupants" (that is the only way Tbilisi refers to Russia nowadays) until Abkhazia and South Ossetia are brought back to Georgia. However, several months ago, an oppositionist with the nearly lowest rating, the former prime minister of Georgia and the current leader of the oppositional Movement for Fair Georgia Zurab Nogaideli arrived in Moscow at his own risk. The official Tbilisi is lavishly using unflattering epithets and has traditionally proclaimed him a traitor; his oppositional colleagues also hailed criticism upon the "unprincipled politician".

Whatever attitude towards Nogaideli his regular visits to Moscow might produce in his own country, he must have had second sight when saying that he was going to be followed by other oppositionists. Now, there is a whole line of the Georgian politicians who are eager to come to Moscow. One of these days, the Russian capital has been visited by "the steel lady" Nino Burjanadze. However, there is nothing surprising here: she has been stating the necessity of resuming relationship with Moscow since last spring, being ranked among the "traitors" and "the Kremlin's agents". Nogaideli is also holding regular meetings with the Russian politicians today.

The Georgian media report that leader of the Conservatives Zviad Dzidziguri wants to come to Moscow as well. Leader of the People's Party Koba Davitashvili also feels like visiting the Russian capital; he has never concealed the "nationalism" that is so popular in today's Georgia. The Labor Party announced that it is waiting for an invitation. Well, everything seems to be going well but the result of the Georgian oppositionists' visits to Moscow is so far unclear. Generally speaking, the current situation in Georgia hardly depends on these visits.
