On October 25-26, the last weekend of the month, Tbilisi is celebrating the Day of the City - Tbilisoba, a holiday that has already become a tradition.
This year in view of the August events Georgia's government has decided not to hold «Tbilisoba" on a large scale like in previous years.
Old city's streets and lanes have been decorated since early morning, cleaned up and prepared to the start of the celebration. And there is a long list of activities planned for these two days in spite of declared "modesty".
On Saturday in Republic Square there will be a car show and a trade exhibition of antique and modern cars.
In Sharden street, in Vatrny and Zhelezny rows everything is ready to welcome the fruit festival. Tables of summer cafés and restaurants are decorated with carved out pumpkins serving as vases. Real - not artificial - fruit are hanging over the trees, the lindens and platens. Improvised pedestals are occupied by "living statues" - students from drama institutes dressed in white tunics.
Right here the tea festival will take place a bit later and the guests will be invited to taste various sorts of Georgian tea. This event is initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Parliament Committee of Georgia for agrarian issues.
On this day Tbilisi cafés and restaurants will offer their visitors traditional barbecue and other dishes from the Georgian cuisine. Churchkhely, made of grape juice, flour and nuts are sold in the streets with a great variety of other delicacies.
Craftsmen from different parts of Georgia have brought their creative products to Tbilisi. Exhibition of their works is another tradition of Tbilisoba holiday.
In Tbilisi History Museum called "Karavan-Saray" the exhibition of "Architectural prize-2008" international contest opened its doors. The contest winners will be announced and awarded on Sunday.
On October 26, in Reekeh square a giant squeezer will be placed for all those who want to take part in grape pressing for making wine.
Concerts of modern pop and folk bands, numerous exhibitions and contests - all this awaits Tbilisians and the city guests at Tbilisoba event.
Also the tradition of conferring "Honorary Tbilisian" title has been preserved. In the evening of October 26 at the final Gala Concert in Svobody square Tbilisi Mayor Ghighi Ugulava will present Certificates with Honorary Tbilisian title to the three most outstanding residents of Georgia's capital...
